CANCELLED: BIRCH + The Actuator, and Shut Up and Write Sessions

Due to COVID-19 our events have been cancelled. This is a precautionary measure to support the health and safety of attendees, staff and also the patients of local health services (these events take place inside SJOG and BHS buildings).

We have also chosen not to pursue an online option at this stage, as we know many clinicians will be working at full capacity at this time.
We will share updates about BIRCH activities on social media and via our newsletter. (You can subscribe to our newsletter via our homepage.)

In the meantime we're continuing to support our research partners with specific research projects.

Apologies for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

BIRCH + The Actuator
- 26 March 2020 -

BIRCH is partnering with The Actuator for a half day workshop. The focus is on ideation, goal setting, and how to pitch your ideas on improvement, innovation, or the next big thing in medicine and allied health.

This is an opportunity to learn how to shape the future of health and medicine by refining how you consider, describe and share your visions. This workshop is a capacity building session – participants don’t need to have their own medical technology inventions or ideas yet. (Also note all IP remains with the relevant individual or organisations; participation in the workshop does not transfer it to The Actuator or BIRCH.)

Any medical and allied health staff and students from BIRCH's partner organisations are invited to attend.

It will be of particular interest to:
  • doctors seeking entrance into competitive disciplines
  • physiotherapists looking to formalise their innovations
  • nurses advancing their training
  • clinicians looking to communicate how their innovations can improve patient care
  • medical profession students wanting to stand out from the crowd in their job seeking
  • inventors of medtech systems, devices, AI, bionics.

* This workshop is different to the workshop hosted in November 2019. It is suitable for both those who attended previously and those attending an Actuator workshop for the first time. *

Shut Up + Write Fridays

BIRCH hosts regular Shut Up and Write sessions.

These sessions are ideal for anyone with a health research project underway, who needs a bit of oomph to get their bum on the chair and focus on their writing for a chunk of time. The sessions make what can often be an isolated process social, and the quiet team environment helps motivate everyone to stay focused for each of the timed writing sprints.

(Attendees are welcome to undertake data analysis or readings etc instead, but it is often writing that people struggle to prioritise and do for meaningful stretches of time without becoming distracted.)

Fridays 1pm - 4pm (no obligation to attend the whole session)
Free.
Tea, coffee and snacks provided.
101 Webster St Ballarat (BIRCH HQ)
